It is not hard to tell where the Medieval Pigface Helmet gets its name. While one might think the styling was done for unique aesthetic purposes, it actually offered an increased level of protection to the face. If a warrior was hit in the face it wouldn’t press against the bones and the eye slits were slanted which wouldn’t allow the blade to penetrate. This was a popular option throughout the 13th and 14the centuries. There are plenty of ventilation holes so it can be comfortably worn during reenactment.
