River Witham Sword
Product DescriptionWhen work was being carried out in 1788 near the town of Lincoln, a sword was dredged out of the River Witham. It is believed that the historical piece was used in 1141 during the Battle of Lincoln, as it was estimated to have been contracted somewhere between 1200 and 1300 CE. On the blade is the inscription +NDXOXCHMDRCHDXORVI+. The River Witham Sword was inspired by this piece. A double fuller runs about two-thirds of the way down the 31-1/2” blade which meets to a blunt hilt, leather-wrapped grip and flat-round pommel. A handsome scabbard has been included.
