Not only are spears one of the most ancient weapons known to man, they are also the most versatile. Used for throwing, thrusting, hand-to-hand combat, and even hunting, the spear developed from a simple paleolithic hunting tool to a powerful weapon. Used in the right formation, it was a force to be reckoned with. The Romans typically began a battle by throwing spears, or pila, at the enemy's cavalary, then used heavier pila to defend their shields with them while they charged—the secret to their success was the spear (and a few genius tactics). We carry a legion of Roman spears, such as our Square Roman Pilum and Weighted Roman Pilum. Of course, spear innovation didn't stop with the fall of the Roman Empire. The Swiss had a reputation for fearsome pikemen, whose formations were feared—and copied—across Europe. Our 17th Century Swiss Halberd is a striking but faithful example of their not-so-neutral weapons. We offer a wide array of spears from all ages—sure to please even the most discerning of warriors.
