With a reputation for being some of the fiercest warriors of their day, the Scots didn’t mess around. To get the job done, they used a variety of weapons, perhaps the most famous being the claymore. Sometimes referred to as a “great sword”, a typical claymore was around 55 in. long and weighed 5 lbs. With it’s cross-hilted design and far reaching length, this two handed weapon was quite effective in warding off an enemy’s chopping or thrusting attack. Used during the Scottish Wars of Independence (although this version of the sword was smaller) and by Highland fighters and Scottish mercenaries in Ireland, the claymore enjoyed a healthy run from the 15th to 17th centuries and still remains one of the most popular swords of any historical period. In lieu of this fact, Armor Venue is pleased to offer our line of claymore swords featuring a variety of styles for whatever the occasion may be.
Whether you are going to a battlefield re-enactment, accessorizing your Highland ensemble, or looking for a piece of history to display in your home or office, our claymore swords will not disappoint. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call at 1-800-315-0377.
