In battle, a Scottish warrior was commonly seen with a broadsword in one hand and a shield in the other and their shield of choice was the targe. This round piece was constructed from two thin layers of flat wood held together by wooden pegs. The back was covered by deer skin while the front was covered in cowhide. The face was decorated with Celtic designs and on occasion, brass plates. Also characteristic of the targe was a center brass boss and sometimes, a long, removeable steel spike. Some variations of the shield had arm straps and handles, but not all of them. As a staple of Scottishdefense, the targe played a part in their battle success and now it can do the same for you. With Armor Venue’s line of Scottish and Celtic shields, you can ensure maximum protection for your next fight.
