Description/Features
This fully wearable suit is based on the famous #13 harness housed in the Castle of Churburg in Italy. Believed to have been made in Milan during the second half of the 14th century, this high quality armour is one of the earliest known examples of a near-intact harness. This armour typifies a period when the traditional mail coat, reinforced with varying degrees of plate protection, was still predominant on the battlefields of Europe and predates the full plate suits of the 15th century.
Our Churburg armour is fully articulated and wearable and boasts many of the features found on the original suit. Many of the individual steel plates that make up the 16 ga. breastplate (which has a lance rest attached to the right hand side) and arm-harness are bordered with decorative etched brass strips. Supplied with an iron display stand, the harness features a round section riveted mail shirt and aventail.

“Great suit of armor to add a touch of nobility and history to your castle Brass trim accentuates the plate armor and chain mail. Plate not as ample ad Milanese suit but it's from an earlier time.”

“I love my armor, but it is not perfect. One of the gloves was damaged, the leather wasn't attached to the armor piece on one of the fingers. I will have to repair it myself before they can be worn. The shin guards don't wrap around at all. They are essentially useless unless you have a massive giant leg. I intend to attempt to hammer them into shape, or else replace them. The sabatons are almost comically bad. There is no way they would ever fit an actual Human's foot, they are pretty ridiculous. There is just no way. Luckily sabatons are for mounted knights, and I ain't got no horse!
The fact that it's 16g with the 14g hard points is a huge plus because that makes it functional. The rest of the suit fits pretty well. I plan to make some modifications for a better fit, which I imagine pretty much anyone would have to, who plans on wearing it. If you want armor that fits you right out of the box, more power to you if you can afford it. But I'm no lord, I'm just a regular guy who wants to survive.
The chainmail shirt is huge, very nice layer of protection; hangs almost to my knees.
This suit has in my opinion, a darker and more sinister look to it. Most armor you see people wearing is later period stuff, but this is old school. This is dirty, nasty medieval. That pig-face bascinet makes you look mean. Don't come at me out of the fog at night wearing that puppy, I shall soil myself forthwith.
To make things even more confusing to your opponents and admirers alike, it has a pretty brass trim around the edges that give you that mister good guy paladin glow when the light hits you just so. It's like a combo of classy and badass at the same time.
The armor and stand come in two really big boxes. The stand is quite tall, which gives the armor a commanding presence when displayed. It seems a little wobbly because of the height, but it has held up fine. I do not foresee it falling over or apart unless I walk face first into at 4am on my way to the coffee machine.
My grand calculated score of this replica of the #14 Churburg Harness is that in spite of its flaws, I love it and recommend it to anyone who wants a suit of functional armor that they don't mind spending some personal time on to make it work for you. It is relatively inexpensive for the quality of the armor itself, at least the important parts. I was a bit annoyed at the damaged part and the obvious dysfunctionality of the pieces I mentioned, but I see those as minor inconveniences.
Shipping was pretty fast if I remember correctly. They actually came several days sooner than expected. Armorvenue customer service was also very good.
I really wish this would have let me add a photo!!!”
